Frequently Asked Questions

What is this place?

This place is a domain where people can come and play. That's pretty much it. I created it to offer a home to friends of mine who used to role play in chats at the now dead beseen.com. These people were accustomed to and preferred the beseen.com chat layout, so my friend and I worked hard to stay true to that chat design in our 100% original code.

What does RP mean?

"RP" stands for "Role-Play." In the role play chat, most people show an action by putting stars on either side of the post, for example:
    *stands around stupidly*
As you can see, the person is describing what their character is doing, in this case standing around.

What does IC mean?

"IC" stands for "In Character." The way a role-play chat works is users create a character to play as. In Character is what we call whatever you say while you are acting out your character.

What does OOC mean?

As you may have guessed, "OOC" means Out Of Character. This is what we call anything you say that isn't supposed to be said in RP, that is, your character isn't saying it, you are. Most people use parintheses to show that they are speaking out of character. For example:
    ((Will you be on later?))
You see, the (( and )) are on either side of the post, indicating this post is made out of character so people won't try to respond to what you said as their characters.

What are some bad RP practices?

There are a few specific things that irritate everyone that new people tend to not know about:
  • Calling a hit
This is when you, for example, say, *kicks Joe in the balls then knees him in the face*.
We call this calling a hit because you didn't give the other party the option of responding. The proper way to perform this action would be, *aims a kick at Joe's balls*. Note, I left off the SECOND action. Only ONE action per post, because if someone were to "break" your combination, none of the actions after the first would happen.
  • Godmoding
This is the other side of the "calling hits" problem. Some people refuse to take a hit. Now, it IS possible to have a character who is extremely dextrous and therefore can dodge many attacks, however there is a cost to that kind of skill. For example, dextrous and quick people are not strong and don't have any form of heavy armor. Also, if they do get hit, they are much more affected by it than a normal person or a heavy person who gets hit alot but has the mass to take the blows more easily.
A good Role-Player defines their character's stats and always considers the feelings of the person she is involved in an RP with.
To be liked and interacted with in the chat, avoiding these two simple problems will get you a long way. Having a well planned character is a definite plus as well.
  • How do I prepare a character?

Most people like to start by defining the very basics:
  • Appearance
  • Sex
  • Specie

  • Everyone wants a picture to use along with their character. For your convenience, I've compiled a list of all the artists that want to be on it. You can ask any of them to draw a picture for you. The list can be found linked on the homepage.
After deciding what your character looks like, deciding on its background is good. A set of skills your character posesses is also good, but beware of what chatters call "powergaming." For example, if your character is a powerful mage, he cannot be a master fighter. It's important to think things like that through.

    Who is the owner?

    That would be me.
My name is Andy, I have contact info on the homepage. I'm currently a military contractor here in Leavenworth, KS.

What's the deal with the donation button in the chat?

That's the way you can keep the chat running. The donate button lets people give me money to use to help offset the costs of keeping this website up and the chats running.

    This didn't answer my question.

Feel free to contact me using my contact info. on the homepage to ask your question.
